自拍功能英文学名为Self-timer，即自行设定拍照时间。这个功能主要是给用户，在单独使用数码相机的时候，又想拍摄自己的影像所使用的。通常有两档可以设置，包括2秒延迟自拍和10秒延迟自拍。
佳能EOS-400D的自拍模式
用户把各种参数设定后，预设自己将会在照片上的位置，然后按下快门。这个时候数码相机开始倒数，倒数时间由用户设定（2秒或者10秒），这个时候，用户也在数码相机面前摆下姿势，倒数完毕，相机快门自动释放，把图片摄入。这就是自拍的全过程。
