My coworker suddenly quit so I have to work overtime to pick up the slack.
我的同事突然辞职了，所以我必须加班来接他留下的工作。
slack可表示绳子松脱的部分，pick up the slack本指拉紧绳子松脱的部分，引伸的意思是接手别人留下的或不愿意做的工作，也可说成take up the slack。
I don't want others to pick up the slack, so I have to finish this project before I quit.
我不想别人要接我留下的工作，所以我在辞职前得完成这项目。
