Itsroofhungfromahugestickinthecenter. Itswallsweremadeofglass. Itcontainedeverythingneededforpeopletolive. Powercamefromthesun. Waterwascleanedandre-used.

Fullerthendesignedandbuiltthedymaxioncar. Itlookedalittlelikethebodyofanairplane. Ithadthreewheelsinsteadoffour. Itcouldgoasfastasonehundredeightykilometersanhour. Itcarrieduptotwelvepassengers.

SeveralcompanieswereinterestedinbuildingandsellingFuller'shouseandcar. Buthisdesignsweresodifferent, soextreme, thatbankswerenotwillingtolendmoneyfortheprojects. Sothedymaxionhouse-- whichcouldhaveprovidedlow-costhousingforeveryone-- wasneverbuilt. Andthedymaxioncar-- whichcouldhaveprovidedsafe, pollution-freetransportationusinglittlegasoline-- wasneverproduced.

Together, thesetwoshapescreateaverystrong, light-weightroundedstructure. Thestructurecanbecoveredwithanykindofmaterial. Anditcanstandwithoutanysupportsinside. Fullernamedthisstructurethegeodesicdome. Itcoversmorespacewithlessmaterialthananyotherbuildingeverdesigned.

Therearenolimitstothesizeofageodesicdome. SoFullerproposedusingthemovercitiesoroverareasthathadsevereweather. Ageodesicdomethatsizewouldmakeitpossibletohavecompletecontrolovertheenvironmentinsideit.
