congratulation的用法

congratulation用作名词，表示祝贺，恭喜；congratulation表示抽象意义的“祝贺”时，为不可数名词。表示祝贺词时，用作可数名词。

1、表示抽象意义的“祝贺”时，为不可数名词。

I sent her a gift as a token of my congratulation.

我给她寄去一件礼物表示祝贺。

He sent her a note of congratulation on her election victory.

她选举获胜，他就寄去了祝贺信。

但用作可数名词时，总是用复数形式，表示祝贺词。如：

We must telephone our congratulations to the happy couple.

我们得打电话向那对幸福的夫妻表示祝贺。

They crowded round the player with congratulations.

他们围着那个运动员，向他祝贺。

2、表示因为某事而表示祝贺，其后接介词on，不用for。如：

Congratulations on passing your exam.

祝贺你通过了考试。

Congratulations on your marriage.

恭贺你喜结良缘。
