HAVANA, Nov. 29 -- KimYongNam, presidentofthePresidiumoftheSupremePeople'sAssemblyoftheDemocraticPeople'sRepublicofKorea (DPRK), onThursdaybeganatwo-dayvisittoCubaaspartofaLatinAmericantourtostrengthenpoliticalandcooperativetieswithdifferentnations.
AccordingtoastatementbytheCubanMinistryofForeignAffairs, Kimwouldbereceivedbytheisland'sfirstvicepresident, SalvadorValdes, andotherofficials.
Hisvisit, saidthebriefstatement, ispartofthe "fluidandintense" bilateralexchangesduetothefriendlyandhistoricalrelationsbetweenthesocialistcountries.
ThevisittotheCaribbeannationcomesjustweeksafterCubanPresidentMiguelDiaz-CaneltraveledtoPyongyangandmetwithDPRKtopleaderKimJongUn.
KimYongNamislikelytomeetDiaz-CanelandRaulCastro, firstsecretaryoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofCuba, duringhisstayinHavana.
Cubaisthesecondlegofhisthree-nationLatinAmericantour, ashepreviouslyvisitedVenezuela.
InCaracashemetwithVenezuelanPresidentNicolasMaduro, andotherseniorofficialswhilethetwonationssignedcooperationagreementsforpoliticalconsultationsbetweenthetwogovernmentsandeliminationofvisasfordiplomaticpersonnel.
