LONDON, Jan. 20 -- EthiopianlegendKenenisaBekelehasconfirmedtorunthe 2018 LondonMarathon, joiningBritain'sMoFarahandKenya'sEliudKipchogeonthestartlineonSunday 22 April, organizerssaidhereonSaturday.
ThetrioofBekele, FarahandKipchogehaveacombinedtotalofeightOlympicgoldmedalsand 12 WorldChampionshipgoldsbetweenthem.
Farah, 34, isthemostdecoratedwithfourOlympicgoldmedalsandsixWorldChampionshipvictoriesover 5,000mand 10,000m, whileBekele, 35, isthe 5,000mand 10,000mworldrecordholder (26:17:53), thesecondfastestmarathonrunnerinhistory (2:03:03) andtheownerofthreeOlympicandfiveWorldChampionshipgoldmedals.
Kipchoge, 33, whowontheLondonMarathontwice, iswidelyseenasthegreatestmarathonrunnerofhisgeneration. Hehasrunanunratifiedmarathontimeof 2:00:25 andisthereigningOlympicchampionoverthe 42.195 kilometers.
HughBrasher, EventDirectoroftheLondonMarathon, said: "Thisisatrulymouth-wateringprospect."
BekelehasrunthepasttwoLondonMarathons, finishingthirdin 2016 andsecondlastyear.
Bekelesaid: "IamthrilledtobereturningtoLondonforthethirdyearinarowandwouldlovetogoonebetterthanlastyearandwintherace. OnceagainLondonhasbroughtthebestdistancerunnersintheworldtogethersoIknowitwillnotbeeasy."
