JAKARTA, Oct. 24 -- OfficialsofChineseandIndonesiananti-drugagenciesheldtheirfirstofficialbilateralmeetinghereonTuesdaytoimplementaMemorandumofUnderstanding (MoU) onanti-drugcooperationsignedbythetwogovernmentsin 2017.
TheinitialmeetinginJakartathatgatheredseniorofficialsfromChina'sNationalNarcoticsControlCommission (NNCC) andIndonesia'sNationalNarcoticsAgency (BNN) servedasthecornerstoneforthefollowingmeetingstobeheldannuallyinthetwocountries.
Speakingonthesidelinesofthemeeting, HeadoftheNNCCdelegationWeiXiaojunsaidthemeetinghasformulatedmechanismsforthefollowingmeetings, includingtheappointmentofdirectcontactpersonsoftherespectiveagenciesrelatedtobilateralanti-drugcooperation.
"Themeetingservesastheconcretewaytospecifycontentsofourbilateraldrugcontrolcooperationinthefuture," Weisaid.
Weiaddedthatthemeetingwouldfurtherspecifytheguidelinesofbilateralcooperationinthesector.
AdocumentcontainingmattersapprovedbytheNNCCandBNNdelegationsduringthemeetingwassignedbyWeiXiaojunandheadoftheIndonesiandelegationAriefWicaksonoSudiutomo.
Ariefsaidbesidesmechanismanddirectcontactsinthetwoagencies, thetwodelegationsalsoidentifiedwaystoexpandthebilateralcooperationindrugcontrol, amongothers, bycapacitybuildingandextendingthecooperationintheASEAN (theAssociationofSoutheastAsianNations) level.
