Fromtheoutsetofthenormalizationprocess, China-USrelationshavealwaysbeenbasedonthecommonunderstandingthatbothsidesrecognizeandrespecteachother'sdifferentsocialsystem. SomeUSpoliticiansclaimthatinengagingandenteringintodiplomaticrelationswithChina, theoriginalUSpurposewastochangeChina, andthatUSpolicyofengagementwithChinahasbecomeatotalfailure. TheyportrayChinaashavingtriedoveralltheseyearstofoolanddeceivetheUS. TheirallegationsarefanfareforideologicalconfrontationandtheColdWarmentality. TheyarenothingshortofdiscredittotheenormouseffortsandcontributionsmadethroughoutpastdecadesbypeopleacrossthetwosocietiestopromotethedevelopmentofChina-USrelations. Yet, factisfact, andhistorycannotbetamperedwith. Weneedtotakeanattitudethatisresponsibletohistoryandtothepeople. Weneedtostandupforwhatisrightandsettherecordstraight. WeneedtojointlysafeguardthefoundationofChina-USrelationsandprotectthefriendshipbetweentheChineseandAmericanpeople. Anyattemptotherwisewillfailthetestofhistoryandpeople’sexpectation.
