Theouterwallsoftoday’sstructureareinthesamepositionasthoseoftheoriginalcastlebuiltbyWilliamtheConquerorinthe 1070s.

      TheQueenusestheCastlebothasaprivatehome, wheresheusuallyspendstheweekend, andasaRoyalresidenceatwhichsheundertakescertainformalduties. WindsorCastleisoftenusedbyTheQueentohostStateVisitsfromoverseasmonarchsandpresidents. EveryyearTheQueentakesupofficialresidenceinWindsorCastleforamonthoverEaster (March-April).
