Thecoronaviruspandemicmayhavedrivenasmanyas 100 millionpeoplebackintoextremepoverty, WorldBankPresidentDavidMalpasswarnedThursday.

TheWashington-baseddevelopmentlenderpreviouslyestimatedthat 60 millionpeoplewouldfallintoextremepovertyduetoCOVID-19, butthenewestimateputsthedeteriorationat 70 to 100 million, andhesaid “thatnumbercouldgohigher” ifthepandemicworsensordragson.
