China emphasizes non-proliferation efforts at Shangri-La Dialogue

      Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun reaffirmed China's unwavering commitment to preventing nuclear war during his keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum on Sunday.

      "Nuclear war has no winners and must not be fought," declared Admiral Dong.

      He emphasized the stability, consistency, and predictability of China's nuclear policy. Dong reiterated China's adherence to the principle of "no first use" of nuclear weapons, pledging to never initiate a nuclear attack under any circumstances.

      The Defense Minister reaffirmed China's commitment to nuclear non-proliferation, stating they will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon states or countries within nuclear-weapon-free zones.

      Highlighting China's commitment to regional security, Dong announced China's willingness to be the first country to sign the protocol to the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone.
