TeacherstatusishigherontheChinesemainlandthaninanyoftheother 34 countriespolled, with 81 percentofrespondentsinChinasayingtheybelievepupilsrespecttheirteachers.
在接受调查的34个国家中，中国大陆教师的地位高于其他34个国家，81%的中国受访者表示，他们相信学生尊重自己的老师。
"FiveyearsafterthefirstGlobalTeacherStatusIndexin 2013, wecansee, onceagain, Chinahascometop, demonstratingjusthowmuchrespecttheChinesepublichasforteachers," saidVikasPota, chairmanoftheVarkeyFoundation.

However, ontheChinesemainland, teachersactuallyearnlessthanpeopleperceive. Respondentsthoughtsecondaryschoolteachersearnedaround $19,500 ayear, butsalariesarearound $12,000.
不过在中国大陆，教师的收入实际上比人们想象的要少。受访者认为中学教师的年薪约为1.95万美元，但实际年薪约为1.2万美元。
Somerespondentssaidafairwageforastartingsecondaryschoolteacherwas $21,500.
一些受访者表示，初入职的中学教师的合理年薪应为21,500美元。
Potasaid: "Raisingteacherstatusisvitaltoattractinggoodteachersandkeepingthemintheprofession. Itisteachers, afterall, whowillshapethenextgenerationandtheyholdourfuturesintheirhands."
