Mangrovesarealinkbetweenlandandsea: rootedinsoilsexposedtothetidesandoxygen-deficientsalinewater, mangrovetreesandawidevarietyofplantsformarareandfragileuniverse; ahavenoflifethatwemustprotect.
红树林是连接陆地和海洋的纽带:在受潮汐侵蚀、盐碱化、氧气不足的土壤中扎根而生的红树和其他各种各样的植物在此自成一方稀有而脆弱的世界——这是一个我们必须加以保护的生命庇护所。
Fromtheintertwiningrootstothetipsofthebranches, inacomplexhabitat, manyspeciescometofeedandreproduce, formingtogetheroneofthemostflourishingecosystemsinexistence.
根部盘虬交错,顶端枝条蔓生,这片错综复杂的栖息地吸引着许多物种前来觅食、繁衍生息,共同构成现存最为丰富多彩的生态系统之一。

我们人类同样依赖于这些环境,它们既能减缓海岸侵蚀,也是许多人的食物来源。
ThisisprobablywhytheColombianpoetTomasGonzalezmadeitthesymbolofhispoetrycollectionentitledManglares (Mangroves), whichcallsforareturntotheessentialunityofnature: "Sothatthetreesfirstemergeandthenblurandmergewiththeair, thelandscapebehind, themudflats; /(...) /sothatthegannetplungesintotheseainaninstantsprinkledwithsalt, sun, glare; / andsothattheseafirstgleamsandthenonceagainmergeswiththeland".
或许正因如此,哥伦比亚诗人托马斯·冈萨雷斯(TomásGonzález)才在其诗集《红树林》(Manglares)中以之为意象,呼吁回归自然的基本统一性:“树木隐现,继而淡出,融入天空、远景和泥滩/(……)/沙鸥猛扎入海,水花、阳光撒落,一片绚烂;/大海波光闪耀,复又与陆地融为一体。”

然而,红树林正濒临险境:据估计,世界上超过四分之三的红树林如今面临威胁,所有依赖红树林维系的平衡也因此岌岌可危。
ThisiswhyUNESCOisactingtoprotectthem, alongwithothervaluablebluecarbonecosystems, throughitsgeoparks, worldheritagesitesandbiospherereserves.
所以,教科文组织正努力通过其地质公园、世界遗产地和生物圈保护区来保护红树林以及其他宝贵的蓝碳生态系统。
Inthefaceoftheclimateemergency, however, timeisrunningoutandwemustgoevenfurther, becausemangrovesarealsocarbonsinksthatwecannotaffordtolose. ThisiswhynextmonthUNESCOwilllaunchanewmangroverestorationprojectinsevenLatinAmericancountries: Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, ElSalvador, Mexico, PanamaandPeru. Thisprojectwillnotonlybringeconomicopportunitiestothelocalcommunities, itwillalsoallowtheexchangeandsharingofknowledgebetweenlocalandindigenouspopulationsandthescientificcommunity.
然而面对气候紧急情况,时间紧迫,必须作出进一步努力,因为红树林也是我们不可或缺的碳汇。因此,教科文组织将于下个月在哥伦比亚、古巴、厄瓜多尔、萨尔瓦多、墨西哥、巴拿马和秘鲁等七个拉丁美洲国家启动一个新的红树林恢复项目。该项目不仅将为当地社区带来经济机会,还将促进当地和土著居民与科学界之间的知识交流和共享。
Beyondprotectionandrestoration, weneedglobalawareness. Thisrequireseducatingandalertingthepublic, notonlyinschools, butwhereverpossible. ThisisthespiritoftheexhibitionwedesignedfortheNationalScienceMuseumofThailandandwhichisnowbeingexportedaroundtheworld, becauseitisalsobyshowingandexplainingthemysteriesofmangrovesthatwewillbeabletopreservethemsustainably.
除了保护和恢复,我们还需要广泛提高认识。为此,需要在学校以及任何可能的地方开展教育和宣传活动。这也是我们为泰国国家科学博物馆设计的展览(目前该展览正在世界各地巡展)所秉持的精神,因为也正是通过展示和解释红树林的奥秘,我们才能可持续地保护红树林。
