Eachsessionhasatheme, andparticipantsaregivenavarietyofmaterialsandpromptsandaskedtocoversurfaceswiththeirthoughtsandart. Thisyear, theprogramsrangefromonethatturnsthehouseintoacollaborativeessaytoonethatexploresthemeaningofexile.
Governor'sIslandisanationalhistoriclandmarkdistrictlongusedformilitarypurposes. Nowknownas "NewYork'ssharedspaceforartandplay," theisland, whichliesbetweenManhattanandBrooklyninUpperNewYorkBay, isclosedtocarsbutopentosummertouristswhoflockforfestivals, picnics, adventures, aswellasthese "legalgraffiti (涂鸦)" sessions.
Thenotesandartscribbled (涂画)onthewallsareanexperimentinself-expression. Sofar, participantshaverangedinagefrom 2 to 85. ThoughChasinsaysthefocusoftheworkisontheactivityofwriting, ratherthanthetextthatendsupgettingwritten, someoftheworkthatcomesoutofthesessionshasstuckwithher.
