考克斯迄今到过北京约15次，也参加过多次中式宴会。他原本以为此次宴会上也会有很多人向他祝酒。但他说，习近平主席的反腐倡议显然很有效果，此次宴会提供的酒水相对较少。

他说，为了纪念我的祖父，他们拿出了茅台；敬酒是很重要，但他们并没有强调饮酒。

考克斯夫妇此行由尼克松基金会(NixonFoundation)和中国人民对外友好协会组织。在北京和杭州停留之后，他们和一个约40人的代表团还将访问上海。
