PhilipwasbornintotheroyalfamiliesofGreeceandDenmark. HisfatherwasPrinceAndrewofGreeceandDenmarkandhismotherwasPrincessAliceofBattenberg. PhilipmarriedElizabethin 1947.
HehelpedtobringtheBritishroyalfamilytraditionintomodernlifeafterWorldWarTwo. InBuckinghamPalace, theofficialroyalfamilyhome, hewassaidtobetheonepersonthequeencouldturntoandtrust.
'Mystrengthandstay'

BuckinghamPalaceandgovernmentbuildingsacrossBritainloweredtheirflags. Therearenopublicdetailsabouthisfuneralyet. Buttheceremoniesarelikelybesmallerandquieterthanusualforroyaldeaths. ThatwouldreflectPhilip'swell-knowndislikeofabigproduction.
Attimes, Philipwasknownforcommentsconsideredassexistandracist. Theprincealsocompletedmorethan 20,000 appearancesasseniormemberoftheroyalfamilytohelpBritishinterestsathomeandaroundtheworld. Heheadedorganizationsthathelpothersinneedandhelpedraisehisfourchildren, includingPrinceCharles, theheirtothethrone. PhilipretiredfrompubliclifeinAugust 2017.
