Whetheritisduetostress, interpersonalconflict, frustration, lackoffeedbackorpromotion, 27 percentofworkersin 24 countriessaidtheyarenothappywiththepsychologicalaspectsoftheirworkenvironment, thesurveybyresearchcompanyIpsosforReutersshowed.
"Employersneedtopayattentiontotheiremployees' mentalhealth, notjusttheirphysicalhealth," saidAlexandraEvershed, seniorvicepresident, IpsosPublicAffairs. "Threein 10 isstillafairlylargeproportionandthatgoesupto 44 percentand 43 percentinArgentinaandMexicoand 42 percentinHungary."
Nearlyhalf, 47 percent, ofthetotalof 14,618 workerspolledagreedthattheirworkplacewas 'apsychologicallysafeandhealthyenvironmenttoworkin' and 26 percenthoveredonthefenceandweren'tsure.
AlthoughmanyNorthAmericanshavefewerholidaysthanEuropeansandmayworklongerhoursandenjoyfewersocialservices, AmericansandCanadianshadthehighestmarksforpositivelyassessingthementalhealthoftheirworkplace, followedbyworkersinIndia, Australia, GreatBritainandSouthAfrica.
Evershedsuggestedthattheimprovingeconomiesinsomecountriescouldhaveplayedapartinthepositiveassessmentamongemployees.
