BANGKOK, Sept. 6 -- TheRegionalComprehensiveEconomicPartnership (RCEP) talksamongthe 10 memberstatesoftheAssociationofSoutheastAsianNations (ASEAN) andtheirsixtradepartnercountriesarescheduledintheThaicapitalonSaturdayandSunday.
TheRCEPtalkswillbechairedbyThailand'sDeputyPrimeMinisterandCommerceMinisterJurinLaksanawisitwhosaidonFridaythatPrimeMinisterPrayutChan-o-chaandhimselfwerepushingforconclusiontotheRCEPtalkswithinthisyear.
ThailandwouldincreaseitsexportmarketsharesandsolveproblemsaboutthefundamentaleconomyofitspeopleifRCEPtalkseventuallyturnedtoaction, accordingtothecommerceminister.
Meanwhile, Jurinconfirmedthe 51stASEANEconomicMinistersMeeting (AEM), currentlyhostedbyThailand, hasacknowledgedprogressmadeunderASEANEconomicCommunityBlueprint 2025.
DuringFriday'sAEMmeeting, fourpaperswereratified, includingASEANoperationplansfordigitaltechnologyfrom 2019 until 2025, industrialchangetoIndustry 4.0, humanresourcesdevelopmentplanstomeettheFourthIndustrialRevolution (4IR) andpromotionofdigitaltechnologyforusebyMicro-, Small- andMedium-sizedEnterprises (MSMEs). MSMEswillbeencouragedtodevelopthemselvesandapplymoderntechnologytoraisetheirpotentialsandhelpstrengthentheASEANfundamentaleconomy.
JurinsaidtheASEANSecretariathasbeenassignedtodraftstrategicplansfor 4IRwhichwillnotonlyinvolvetheASEANeconomicpillarbuttheASEANsocialandculturalpillarsaswellastheASEANpoliticalandsecuritypillars.
