KHARTOUM, July 22 -- SudangovernmenthassetJuly 26 asthedateforsigningadealonpower-sharingbetweenSouthSudaneserivals, amidconcernsthatdifferencesmayrisetofailtheproposeddeal.
Sudan'sForeignMinistryonSundayannouncedthatinvitationshavebeensenttoallheadsofstateoftheInter-GovernmentalAuthorityonDevelopmentinAfrica (IGAD) toattendthesigningceremonyinKhartoumnextThursday, SudaneseMediaCenter (SMC) reported.
ThepartieswerescheduledtosigntheinitialdealonJuly 19, butthesigningwasdelayedattherequestofSouthSudanesegovernment, whosaiditneededmoretimeforfurtherconsultations.
Sudan'sForeignMinisterAl-DirdiriMohamedAhmedwasquotedassayingthattheSudanesemediationeffortsaresupportedbytheIGADChairmanandEthiopianPrimeMinisterAbiyAhmed, tocompletetheremainingtasksofpeacerealizationinSouthSudan.
"Theopportunitiesofsuccessprovidedforthesetalksareconsideredenoughandmakeusconfidentthatmattersarepressingahead," hesaid.
However, SouthSudaneseconflictingpartieshavereportedlyexpressedreservationsoverthedraftdocumentofthedealonpower-sharing.
Tothisend, SudanesemediaoutletsearlierquotedSouthSudan'sInformationMinisterMichaelMakueiLuethassayingthattheSudanesemediationhasamendedwhatthepartieshaveagreedonandpresentednewproposalsdiscussedbefore.
