TheNationalNewEnergyVehicleTechnologyInnovationCenterwasunveiledinBeijingbytheMinistryofScienceandTechnologyandBeijingmunicipalgovernment.
Participantsofthecenterare 21 ofChina'sleadingNEVmanufacturersandR&Dinstitutions, includingBeijing'sBAICGroup, Geely, BYD, Baidu, TsinghuaUniversity.
Chinahasonlytwonationaltechnologyinnovationcenters, onefornewenergyvehiclesandanotherforhigh-speedrail.
"Internettechnologyandthenewenergyvehicleindustryaremergingindevelopment. Theproduction, salesandthewayofusingnewenergyvehiclesareevolvingrapidly. Weneedtoadvanceinnovationintheseindustriesandprovidestrongpolicyimpetus," saidWanGang, ministerofScienceandTechnology.
ChenJining, mayorofBeijing, saidthecenterwasexpectedtoelevateChina'sglobalcompetitivenessintheindustry.
ThecenterwillgetfundingfromtheministryandBeijingmunicipalgovernment.
Newenergyvehiclesrefertovehiclespoweredbynon-traditionalfuel, forexample, electricandhybridvehicles. China'snewenergyvehiclemarketrecordedanotheryearofrapidgrowthin 2017 asthegovernmentcontinueditsstrongpushforgreentransport.
Atotalof 777,000 newenergyvehiclesweresoldintheChinesemarketlastyear, up 53.3 percentyearonyear, accordingtotheChinaAssociationofAutomobileManufacturers (CAAM).
