PhelpswasrespondingtocommentsmadebyfellowswimmerRyanLochte, whocausedcontroversyrecentlywhenhereportedlysaidthathehasonoccasionrelievedhimselfwhileinthepool.
LochtehasrevealedthathepeedinthepoolwhilewarmingupfortheLondonOlympics.
The 28-year-oldswimmingstarmadetherevelationwhenradiopersonalityRyanSeacrestaskedhim, ifswimmersurinateinthepool.
"Ofcourse. Wealwaysdo," hesaid

WhenaskedifhedidthatduringtheLondonOlympics, hesaid: "Notduringtheraces, butIsuredidbeforeinwarm-up."

Lochtewonthe 400 metresindividualmedley, withPhelpsfinishingfourth.
ButPhelpsgothisrevengeinthe 200 metresevent, winningtherace, asLochtefinishedinthesilvermedalposition.
ThetwowerepartoftheUSteamthatwongoldinthe 4 x 200 metresfreestylerelay.
