Hewasaboutthesizeofadinnerplate. Aslow-moving, noiseless, virtuallymaintenance-free[8] animal, appearingonourwayhome. Myfatherlookedskyward. Itmusthavebeenwilled[9]. Hegraspedtheshellatthreeandnineo’clock, likeasteeringwheel, andsetthecreatureinthebackofthestationwagon.[10]
