HONGKONG, June 20 -- China'sSupremePeople'sCourt (SPC) andtheDepartmentofJusticeoftheHongKongSpecialAdministrativeRegion (HKSAR) signedhereonTuesdayanarrangementonreciprocalrecognitionandenforcementofciviljudgmentsinmatrimonialandfamilycases, markinganewmilestoneinpromotingmutuallegalassistancebetweenthetwoplaces.
TheArrangementonReciprocalRecognitionandEnforcementofCivilJudgmentsinMatrimonialandFamilyCasesbytheCourtsoftheMainlandandoftheHKSAR (theArrangement), whichaimstoensurethatpartiesintheHKSARandtheMainlandcanenforcerelevantciviljudgmentsinmatrimonialandfamilycasesthroughaclearandeffectivelegalregime, wassignedbytheSPCExecutiveVicePresidentShenDeyongandtheHKSARSecretaryforJusticeRimskyYuen.
Speakingatthesigningceremony, Shensaidthataftertakingeffect, theArrangementcanbringmoretangiblebenefitstopeopleinthetwoplacesbyremarkablyreducingtheburdenofmultiplicityofsuitsontheonehand, andfurtherenhancejudicialmutualtrustbetweenthetwoplacesontheother, Shensaid.
Ontheoccasionofthe 20thanniversaryforHongKong'sreturntothemotherland, thesigningcanbeseenasanothersignificantefforttoimplementandenrichtheprincipleof "onecountry, twosystems" intheformoflegaldocuments, hesaid, expressinghopethatlegalprofessioninthetwoplacescontinuetoupholdtheprincipleof "onecountry, twosystems," scrupulouslyobservetheConstitutionandtheBasicLaw, andworkforanoverallsystemofmutuallegalassistance.
